Biography
M-j as a Production Designer & Art Director, has been weaving her magic and sprinkling her gold dust on creative ideas throughout South Africa, Europe, Budapest, Germany, Vienna & New York for over 20 years – while at the same time keeping an iron-fist control on the budget. She is equally at home shooting on remote locations such as Namibia, Seychelles and Mauritius.
Working on Commercials or Feature Films, she is totally committed to anticipating the film director’s needs and to interpreting his vision into an end result that exceeds his expectations. On both features and commercials, her positive “let’s make it happen” attitude ensures that the project evolves to be the best that it can be.
M-J’s talent is strongly underscored by 5 years of academic studies spent obtaining a Graphics Art diploma at Michaelis School of Art, University of Cape Town. Although she majored in photography, which remains one of her primary artistic expressions, she has embraced many art disciplines including oil painting, paint effects, set painting, jewellery design & manufacture.
Fluent in German, M-j spent 5 years working in Hamburg , Budapest, Vienna, & New York where she honed her international style and gained extensive experience Production Designing & Art directing commercials and music videos for many of the leading European commercial production companies.
The warmth of the sun however, proved too seductive and she returned home to Cape Town where she has continued to build an enviable client-base of local and international film directors.
Her skills encompass concept renderings, finished art on products, architectural drawings/plans and Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Her special interests are figure body building, boxing, dog training, cultivating roses and vintage Mercedes Benz cars.
